#1 of 39 in Nature in Armenia
The largest body of water in the Caucasus region, Lake Sevan boasts a number of resorts, camping sites, and cabana-type accommodations catering to budget-minded travelers. The high-altitude lake lies 1,900 m (6,233 ft) above sea level, offering excellent hiking opportunities that combine scenic nature with impressive cultural heritage, passing ancient monasteries and prehistoric stone gardens with petroglyphs. Resembling a sea, the lake displays a range of blue colors and is home to many hearty fish, most notably the endemic Sevan trout or ishkhan, a local specialty. • Before the trip to Armenia, I wanted to have a good rest of the sea)) but in the Republic there is no sea))) its absence did not upset, because there is a majestic Lake Sevan! Another mandatory to visit an attraction) only 70 km from Yerevan at a height of almost 2000 m above sea level in the mountains lies the largest lake in the Caucasus!) Here catch crayfish, trout and whitefish, which immediately savour one of the many restaurants located in the coastal precincts)) prices are more than delicious))) in the summer it is a popular place for recreation, water pure with Emerald color!) in April the temperature is low, but is our tourists ever this is stopped?)) do not saw, we were told) Climbing trail approximately 200 steps, you find yourself in a monastery of Sevanavank, designated in a list of objects of cultural heritage of UNESCO. Founded in the 9th century. The name translates as "black monastery" because of black volcanic stone blocks from which elevated. Ascetic. From the height of Lake Sevan. Beauty is indescribable!

  • Sevan is a world-famous lake located in Armenia. I can recommend bathing. I learned a walk around a part of the lake.  more »
  • Beautiful Lake to the left when in a marshrutka to Yerevan from Tbilisi was Lake Sevan. Severn lake views of scenery, good weather that day was shining brilliantly. Snow visited Lake Sevan, and take a tour of the local markets, the unfortunate. Shake the snow at the end of April. Shivering in the cold, enjoyed the Lake only a short period of time.

  • OceanAir Travels guide took us to the Sevan lake in Armenia and guide explains everything about this place in a good and understanding manner. If you want to see the real beauty of Sevan, Visit semi island. I highly recommended OceanAir Travels.
  • Visited the Caucasus and fell in love with Armenia & Georgia, very disappointed with Azerbaijan as they seem to value everything that is new and shiny. Their Aliyev cultural center was a magnificent new building but without any real depth, their focus was claiming the culture of ancient Parthia's, Persians , Armenians & Georgians and seem very hateful especially towards Armenians As a Christian it was a very spiritual trip for me. Both nations are two of the oldest Christian nations in history. My opinion of Azerbaijani Turks as people & nation has taken a serious dive, they seem intent on tarnishing everything to do with Armenia, including the fool here claiming Lake Sevan is Azerbaijani As a teacher I have keen interest of history & Christian history and I find the pathetic claims of marauding nomadic Tartars & Turks who have only decimated, killed & stolen the lands & culture of Armenians, Georgians & now claim it as theirs
  • Hi,Sevan is beautiful place for seeing, so dont wait to long and go there.Above the lake is church, from where you can have a nice look on landscape.
  • Nice calm lake. We visited under very overcast weather and the sky and lake were merging: beautiful. Unfortunately there is a lot of trash floating on it 😣. Many vendors sell fish along the lake and mention the size of the fish between their hands to passerby. Cute and wildly exaggerated!
  • Nice and calm place. Option to have lake side lunch
