Lake Sevan, Lake Sevan

(4.5/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
The largest body of water in the Caucasus region, Lake Sevan boasts a number of resorts, camping sites, and cabana-type accommodations catering to budget-minded travelers. The high-altitude lake lies 1,900 m (6,233 ft) above sea level, offering excellent hiking opportunities that combine scenic nature with impressive cultural heritage, passing ancient monasteries and prehistoric stone gardens with petroglyphs. Resembling a sea, the lake displays a range of blue colors and is home to many hearty fish, most notably the endemic Sevan trout or ishkhan, a local specialty. • The largest reservoir of Armenia. I've seen completely frozen. It's huge and fascinating. Unfortunately is uncared for, as the surrounding areas. There is so much ancient history, but also many Soviet modern ruins.
