Checkered stone vaults and exquisite carvings define Hayravank Monastery, a small, compact stone monastery perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Sevan. Built in the 9th to 12th centuries on one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world, the site features a church with quatrefoil cruciform made of red and gray tuff stone. It also showcases typical steles with carved crosses scattered in the cemetery around the church. After 250 steps to the top, you will be perched above the noisy Sevan beach with a stunning view. A Bronze Age archeological site sits behind the church. While here sample ishkan, a Sevan trout endemic to the lake. • The Church was closed. It was interesting to look at it as it was at the beginning of our journey. Worth the drive here, if along the way. But no more.

  • Little church on the shore of the Lake. From the Church offering a beautiful view. Excavations around the Church of the monastery, you can walk, but caution there are no fenced pits.

  • The monastery is situated on a hill above Lake Sevan. Very scenic views of the Lake. Founded in the 9th century. Around many khachkars, tombstones. This is the main attraction of the area.
