  • The central square or Plaza Vardanants Gyumri is the heart of the city and is located in the city centre. On one side of the square, City Hall building, which was built from scratch after the devastating 1988 earthquake, from which destroyed almost the entire city. On one side is the Church of Astvatsatsin (mother of God), where you will get a great energy. Visit this church believe mandatory for anyone visiting the city. Next to the Church are two domes collapsed, have fallen during the earthquake of the year 1988 and were left near the temple, but instead were built new. On the other side of the square is the Church of Surb Amenaprkich (Saint Savior), built in 1859-1873, which almost completely destroyed during the earthquake of the year 1988, but almost restored. When restoring the shattered Temple stones were used. This church stands a memorial to the victims of the earthquake, near many beautiful khachkars (Armenian stone-crosses). With the fourth side of the square is the three-storey building of the former hotel "Leninakan", which was already 28 years after the earthquake. And in the center of the square are the fountains that beautiful night and day. In the evening, here plays music, townspeople and tourists walking, kids playing. Here on the square or near several restaurants, cafes, as well as banks and many shops.
