Admire a pearl of Armenian medieval architecture with exquisite stone carvings at Goshavank Monastery, a huge 12th-century orthodox monastery complex on the hillside above Lake Gosh. Explore some of the world’s finest examples of Armenian cross-tones, or "khachkars" (memorial steles with a cross), a craft protected by UNESCO. Visit two churches within the complex, as well as admiring a bell tower with a book depository, elegant vaults, and pointed arches. Light a candle for lost souls and admire the carved, lacy ornaments decorating the numerous steles. A shrine to the monastery’s founder, Mkhitar Gosh, sits nearby, providing a scenic view of this marvelous stone structure nestled at the bottom of the hills. Goshavank Monastery Reviews
Besonders schön ist der Blick auf die Anlage am Ende einer am Parz See begonnenen Wanderung. Das Kloster hat hohen kunst-/historischen Stellenwert. more »The views of the facility is especially beautiful at the end of a hike began at Lake Parz. The monastery has high art / historical significance.
This is a hidden gem. It's a great day trip from Yerevan - located in the village of Gosh. This monastery was named in honor of Mkhitar Gosh. He was an Armenian scholar, writer, public figure, thinker... more »

This monastery was founded in the year 1.188, about twenty kilometers from the monastery of Guetik, destroyed by an earthquake and reached fame throughout the country as the cradle of knowledge, education and cultural center thanks to Mkhitar Gosh, monk, writer and scholar that I end up giving name the place, meaning monastery of Gosh since explained me that the original name was Nor Guetik, and after the death of Gosh, that he was buried in a mausoleum next to the place in the year 1213 in his memory was changed the name to the monastery to its designation current n. The set is composed of several churches, chapels, a library, a school and mausoleum. I was told that the library get to have up to fifteen thousand volumes but sadly it was burned with the invasion of the Mongols in the year 1.375. Don't miss the view of a khachkar (stone cross) next to the door of the monastery which is a true wonder, originally were two crosses carved by the sculptor Poghos in memory of his parents and the other is today in the Museum of history of Yerevan. Take a look also at an imposing walnut located north which I was told is the same age as the monastery.
This is must see place in Armenia. Goshavank is a 12th century Armenian monastery located in the village of Gosh in the Tavush Province, not far from Dilijan and Ijevan. It is a big monasterial complex with incredible architecture. Some parts of it, possibly, from pre-christian times. The road to the monastery is good.
This Monastery is very unusual because its located in high place surrounded by mountains and unbelievable nature.
Today the monastery is not a functioning religious complex, although it remains a popular tourist destination and has recently undergone some light restoration.
Beautiful place that offers a nice panorama.

Where to stay in Gosh
Gosh has little to offer by way of accommodations, so most opt to make day excursions from one of the larger urban areas to the little lakeside monastery town. About a 30-minute drive to the west, Dilijan offers a good set of lodgings, with a range of guesthouses, boutique hotels, and simple hotels to choose from. The capital, Yerevan, is only an hour and a half away, and offers by far the greatest choice of accommodations in the country, with hotels large and small, guesthouses, apartment rentals, and hostels all located close to the town center.
