Religious Site Tourist Spot
Marvel at masterpieces of ancient Armenian stonemasonry at Noravank Monastery, an architectural ensemble set in the Amaghu River Gorge. Surrounded by dramatic red cliffs, this stone complex boasts the 14th-century double-decker Surb Astvatsatsin Church (Holy Mother of God), as well as Surb Karapet (St. John The Baptist), built in 1216-1227 while Latin crusaders held Constantinople. Both churches feature characteristic bell tower drums and conical roofs. Explore the complex further to discover a number of intriguing khachkars and important cave complexes. • Spectacular 13th-century monastery, perched at the end of a narrow mountain valley, which dominate the red rocks that are all around. Spectacular spot regarding the sculptural reliefs on the three churches, masterpieces! The entrance to the Church of s. Astvatsatsin consists of two narrow and steep stairs leading to the upper cell parallel; Unfortunately tourists climb by losing the poetry of the place. Essential from a trip to Armenia. Not to be missed!!

  • The monastery is delightful. Place red mountains around the incredible beauty of stone carving-all great. Note the three tiers of the main church-then so is nowhere to be built. Recommend a visit on the route Yerevan-areni-Noravank.

  • This relatively new monastery (built in the 1200's) is stunning and is set in a beautiful canyon. Well worth a visit if in the area.
  • The greatest creation of Momik in picturesque place. It's an unique monastery by its nature. Red canyon is so beautiful in sunny day. You can enjoy the beautiful view all day.
  • we took a trip to Noravank and others and with the super weathet it was really great day
  • Oooh, I fell in love with this place and with the mountains surrounding chirch. Interesing history and an opportunity to climb a little bit higher to get this beautiful photos. However be aware of steep path, do not fall there:)
  • Incredible and amazing proof of Armenia culture! Must see place!
