Isla Martillo, Ushuaia
(4.6/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Catch a boat to Isla Martillo, a small island home to thousands of penguins where you can get close and observe them in their natural habitat. A guide takes you through authorised trails where you can get as close as 3 m (10 ft) to Gentoo and Magellanic penguins. Look out for other animals such as the penguin's main predator, the skua bird. Importantly, know that only one tour company allows you to land on the island to see the penguins, other tour companies can only offer you views from the boat. • I think the penguins ' Rookery of Isla Martillo not to be missed. Especially when you have the opportunity to go down to the island and walk among the friendly penguins. Indescribable.

  • This excursion allowed us once more to see colonies of little penguins some in full activity, some brooding their eggs in turn. The Harberton estancia also has a more or less interesting Marine Museum. There is only Piratur that organizes this visit from Ushuaia end of the world

  • Isla Martillo or penguins ' Rookery, was the main attraction of Ushuaia. The tour is done only by Piratour and cost 2,000 pesos per person. We left the Bay of Ushuaia, in a van from Piratour and took almost 1 hour and a half to get to the place where we take the boat to the penguins ' Rookery, with a stop at estancia harberton (slanted trees due to wind). On this site there was a small café and toilets. We took the boat out to the island. The guide was super nice and was explaining different things throughout the path (including the van), in both English and Spanish. Arriving at the penguins ' Rookery, we saw penguins papua and two King penguins. After we saw many penguins. We went in late October and the Magellanic penguins were hatching their eggs. We were about 40 minutes of on the island, and made it back to less than half a meter of one or another Penguin, always respecting their limits. On the way back, we stopped at the café and the Museum site, which is quite interesting.
