Glacier Martial, Ushuaia

#1 of 58 in Outdoors in Ushuaia
Mountain · Hiking Trail
A short trip from the city, Glacier Martial offers an array of hiking trails and walks of varying difficulties. Providing nearby Ushuaia with much of its fresh water, the glacier rises behind town and serves as a natural vantage point over the surrounding area. Head for the start of the main trail--the most common route for visitors--and hike your way up through the gorge to the top of the hill (do ensure that you have proper hiking gear before setting off). Alternatively, hop aboard the chairlift, which whizzes you to the top in just 15 minutes and eliminates the need for trekking experience. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the view of the gorge and ocean from the summit. Add Glacier Martial and other attractions to your Ushuaia trip itinerary using our Ushuaia road trip app.

  • I stayed in a hotel well up the road that leads to the Glacier so it was a nice hike from there. Although some people do it, I would not consider it safe to walk up the road from Ushuaia because of...  more »
  • Very beautiful views, I haven't been tp the gym in month but survived! Going up can be steep at some points but not too bad. Coming down is a breeze. Took up 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the top...  more »
  • From downtown Ushuaia, you can get a nice view of Glacier Martial atop the Martial Mountains a few kilometers north of the city. But don't settle for that. Get up close and personal with this glacier....  more »
  • Went in the "summer" and was a great hike from the bottom of the ski resort to the top. Took 1.5hours and fantastic views of the city. Made a great snowman at the top which can be seen in the pictures. Would recommend getting a taxi to the start though as the walk from town is mundane
  • Amazing! Tough walk up the steep hill, beautiful sights and well worth it. Pack in some water and snacks, remember to keep your trash with you.
  • Este lugar tiene Rocanrol! This place has more rock and roll than rolling stones
  • If you are short on time, take a taxi up which is quicker and cheaper than a tour. A 20-30 minute hike up near the Glacier. Limited view points and very strong winds. Gloves, warm jacket, and a touque in late Mar are recommended. It's quite cool hiking up to thr Glacier.
