Church Tourist Spot
Duck in for a quick visit to Iglesia San Francisco de Paula, a small, unassuming church located in a quiet village. Constructed from adobe in an American style, the church dates back to the 17th century. Head inside to see to the intricately-carved altar of wood and gold leaf. Once inside, pay special attention to the colonial-era paintings of the arcabuseros angels, brought from Cusco. Leave your camera at home, as the church does not allow photography. • The Church of San Francisco de Paula was built in 1691 and also declared a national historical monument. American-style and with Jesuit influence, keeps the oldest altarpiece of region, Golden foil, wood and a treasure that is hard to beat: a series of paintings known as "Los ángeles arcabuceros", or "Nine Angels gentlemen", of Cuzco origin, that are there from mid-18th century. The angels are represented dresses such as the Spanish military wore at the time of Carlos II.
