  • Active from 1953 to 1979-when it was closed by the Government of the colonels-this country at 4000 masl housed the families of the miners of the mine Julia, sulphur deposits located at 5200 m 25 km further West. Here was the refinery where sulphur-delivered here with a 15 km long cable car that left a yellow stripe visible from satellite-99.9% purity and was led to an exported to Chile with truck and rail. Today it is a ghost town, but at the time they lived here from 2 to 3,000 people, with church, infirmary, school, playing fields and even a casino. Nice cemetery, where lie 400 residents.

  • Travel in December 2017, in the company of my family and my boyfriend. My grandparents worked in the mine, where was extracted and processed sulphur. My parents were born and grew up in this village. It was a journey of re-encounter with my roots, and my identity. I was amazed by the conditions in which worked my grandparents, a strong sun at noon and degrees below zero at night. Very windy from the afternoon. And of course, the altitude. The camp is completely looted, the unique buildings that remain standing and with a roof are the Church, and the casino more large. Primary school, had everything, Church, hospital, two casinos, football and basketball, heating a fireplace in every home, system of sewage and drinking water, electricity. And yet they are still looting it. I was happy to know the houses in which my parents grew up, and where he fell in love. The landscape for travelers and adventurers is beautiful, everything from Campo Quijano to the chance. And the sky at night is wonderful! by the density of stars and the nearby that are seen. If they are encouraged to camp, it's worth it! that Yes, carry good coats, it's really cold. Yet the plain of water (sweet), water that can be removed if you camping. It is also recommended for people who like the history of the country, if they have the opportunity to go with a guide. High mountain tourism can be. And you can also climb the mine Julia, but it is pretty far walk. I recommend to go in December or mid-February, because many snow falls in January. We traveled by bus from Salta Capital, it is a long trip. We left at 21:00 and arrived in the afternoon. Because we stopped in San Antonio and Tolar to eat. This good make stops along the way, to acclimatize to the altitude. As well as carrying reliveran, or chewing coca leaves. The route from San Antonio to Tolar is not entirely paved, but from Caipe until the chance is still the street of old pavement.

  • We arrived through a track of 40 Km, that part of the cone of Arita and becomes a path of asphalt deteriorated 25 Km before mine. The journey along the trail, which requires 4 x 4 vehicle is a magic show. The camp is overwhelming. This ride is the most wonderful thing that we do. We have no doubt about it and strongly recommend it.
