The road from Tolar Grande is gravel and there are sections where you have to travel very slowly since it is badly preserved. It must go on 4 x 4 and bring water, protective solar, and for lips and hat since the Sun sticks with intensity throughout the day. There is no signal cell Vale

The 15 km of Tolar, there is an exit to the South which is inserted in the Salar de Arizaro and from where will travel 50 km across it to the entrance to the cone of Arita. There should leave the vehicle and walk one kilometer on crusts of salt to reach the cone. As there is a marked path walk can be quite tiring if you don't have a proper physical condition. Bring water, sunglasses Sun, hat or hat and comfortable shoes for the crossing. The way into salt, even if it is ground or plates of salt, is generally well maintained and is wide, because it serves as access to the nearby mines. It can be very carefully with a 4 x 2 vehicle, but it is safer to go on 4 x 4 truck. We did it in a Duster 4 x 4. The road is quite lonely, which makes it even more attractive, but in the event of a mechanical malfunction can take a long time to receive help, which agree to take good provision of water, fuel, food and blankets for the cold of the night. It is unlikely that this happens to traveling with a vehicle in conditions, but should be handled with caution and responsibility. For lovers of the desert of the Puna, the visit is simply extraordinary. There converge the Sun, the sky, the salt and desert. It is an impressive and refreshing experience! Note for TripAdvisor: the visit took place in January 2016 and not in January 2017 as in 'Your visit date'

In the area are made of metals and elements non-metalliferous mining. It is especially abundant in salt, marble, iron, copper and Onyx. We went to the cone of arita, which is the most famous in the area, the route, all salt, is in good condition, obviously have to drive slowly, also can be reached by the same route to antofalla and from there to Antofagasta. A huge and endless landscape!
