Tigre
Teeming with weekend visitors and day-trippers from the national capital, Tigre and its lush nature offer a range of opportunities for exploring the great outdoors. Situated on a rich delta, Tigre has its roots in the agricultural growth of the 16th century. After receiving town status in 1820, it quickly grew into a vital hub for trade from the interior. Named for the jaguars that once prowled its marshes, the city maintains much of its natural heritage--explore it on your Tigre holiday with boat trips, rowing excursions, and cruises on vintage vessels through the area's network of rivers and canals. In and around town, tour the produce and craft markets, elegant historical homes, and a number of upscale restaurants. Use our Argentina trip tool to arrange the details of your trip to Tigre and other destinations.

Where to stay in Tigre

Tigre and its delta surroundings are chock-full of choices for accommodations thanks to their popularity with visitors both foreign and domestic. The city center around the Tigre River features a number of smaller-scale apartments and family-run bed and breakfasts, while the areas closer to the delta itself are more beach-oriented. If you're looking to enjoy the area's famously lush nature, check out a "cabana"--these rustic cabins are omnipresent in the forests and marshes around town, and allow you to wake up with the canals and trees of the delta right at your doorstep. Since many of these countryside accommodations are only accessible by boat, they usually provide most meals. Keep in mind that more rustic charm in this case can also mean hordes of mosquitos at night.
