Represa Rio Hondo, Termas de Rio Hondo

2.7
#3 of 7 in Things to do in Termas de Rio Hondo
Visit an important example of local engineering at Represa Rio Hondo, the site of a large dam and reservoirs. Built in 1967, the dam is 39.5 m (130 ft) tall and 2,368 m (7,769 ft) wide, supplying the area with irrigation and drinking water, hydroelectricity, and flood mitigation systems. Bring your binoculars with you to appreciate the abundant sights of birds, including herons and ducks. The reservoirs also provide ample fishing opportunities, with the warm waters home to catfish, wolf fish, and mackerel. A man-made beach offers plenty of leisure activities, including boating and water skiing. Represa Rio Hondo is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Termas de Rio Hondo Edition.

  • Much to tell there except for the work of the man, the place is neglected and there is no service, at most a kiosk that sells water, is to travel by car, to walk and stretch your legs

  • From the city it is about 5 km along the waterfront of the River, you arrive at the dam, is to go and look at a time, there too, we went walking, and when the Sun drops you eat mosquitoes. on the other side of the Bank of the river there is a fair in the "salt" style trout clothes made in paraguay and some regional, the place is pretty dirty and there was no police presence, go in times of day, and type 5 paste back.

  • All i lack information beyond the minimum, "pensioners of PAMI" style. Brochures, maps. Ditto for the information provided by the province

Where to stay in Termas de Rio Hondo

The four- and five-star hotels that are within walking distance from the center of Termas de Rio Hondo provide some of the best accommodations in town, with perks like indoor swimming pools, fitness facilities, and spa services. These are among the most expensive options in the area, so if you're visiting on a budget, consider checking into a hostel farther away from the city center. The area near the main bus station also offers some good-value hotels--and many of these utilize hot spring water.
