Cerro El Centinela, Tandil

4.1
#1 of 31 in Things to do in Tandil
True to its name, Cerro El Centinela keeps watch over the plains below. Literally "Sentinel Hill" in English, the distinctive rock formation, consisting of a large rock balanced precariously on another below it, has attracted generations of Argentinean visitors. The top rock moves back and forth slowly over several hours, so if you leave something next to the point where the stones meet, you'll probably come back to find it crushed hours later. The park surrounding the rock formation offers several enjoyable, not-too-difficult hiking trails. With our custom trip planner, Tandil attractions like Cerro El Centinela can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

Beautiful place to walk, ride a chairlift and spend the day, since their food is very good, excellent views of the city of Tandil

Note that the trails are maintained for the safety of visitors. One naturally moves to safe and marked places subtly. Not a lot of fences and limits is what makes one feel free to move around where you like, however all spaces are kept. Variety of services and tourist offers to explore the place. Watch out the values of what you buy as a souvenir or for lunch.

It is a very nice place and is well organized. The day we went there were many people, but that did not stop to enjoy. The chairlift was good. Please note that the ticket office closes at 17. A must place to meet in Tandil.

It's nice to go with kids, but a lot of people and not much to walk.

Where to stay in Tandil

Thanks to Tandil's popularity as a weekend and holiday destination for domestic and international tourists alike, it features a wide array of accommodation options suitable for just about any budget. Downtown you'll find a number of larger-scale hotels and rental apartments that offer privacy, onsite dining, and fancier accoutrements catering to business travelers and tourists. In order to get out into nature, many visitors opt for "cabanas," traditional Argentine cabins in the surrounding countryside; bear in mind that these are rustic and charming but only practical if you have access to a car. Booking ahead of time in the summer high season is an absolute must in Tandil, as lodgings fill up fast.
