4.6/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web
Admire the many architectural and artistic details at Basilica de Nuestra Senora de la Merced, one of the most important buildings in the city. Dedicated to the city's patron saint, the neoclassical basilica was designed by French architect Pedro Delgare Etcheverry in 1865. Its facade consists of an attractive portico flanked by two bell towers, the east of which houses a clock imported from London in the 1840s. Head inside to examine the work of another Frenchman, painter Felix Revol. Other highlights include an antique piano imported from France in the 1800s, as well as a wooden cross that dates back to the very foundations of the city in 1565.
