#1 of 15 in Sightseeing in Province of Catamarca
Church Landmark
Admire the distinctive, salmon-pink architecture of Catedral Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Valle, boasting twin spires and a columned facade. Completed in 1695 and dedicated to the Virgin of the Valley, the cathedral continues to hold a significant place in Argentina's religious history as the site of a popular pilgrimage every December. Step into the cathedral's surprisingly airy interior and appreciate the detailed frescoes and stained glass lining the walls and ceilings. Look up at half-dome behind the altar, which resembles a blue sky streaked with whisps of white clouds. • I have visited the Cathedral on several occasions and always gets me goose bumps! the Cathedral and the Virgin are beautiful! the only drawback is that to access the camarín de la Virgen access by stairs and is not accessible to people with limited mobility or is wheel chair.

Where to stay in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca

Most accommodations cluster in the streets surrounding the Republica thoroughfare, with colonial-era buildings on the main boulevards housing some of the most luxurious options, and a scattering of more informal hotels and guesthouses flanking the neighborhood's side streets. Look farther south for a selection of more budget-friendly places to sleep, with hostels and guesthouses fitting in with the look of the primarily residential streets.
