Laguna del Diamante is a lake located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, in the San Carlos Department, some 198 km from Mendoza. It covers a surface area of about 14.1 km² and is one of the largest freshwater resources in the Province. Nearby is Maipo volcano. However, few get the chance to see it because it is passable only in February and only via an off-road vehicle. The lake was described by Antoine de Saint Exupéry in his book Wind, Sand and Stars as quoted, "...he caught sight of a dark horizontal blot which he recognized as a lake Laguna Diamante".

  • Scores always tend to be very subjective, depending on individual taste. If you like to manage by lonely gravel paths, in the middle of the mountain with beautiful landscapes, observing the flora and fauna of each place, for a trip that will take you 3 hours approx., and when you reach destination you dazzle with what you find, then can not miss going to this lagoon protected by the majestic volcano Maipo. It is advisable to go in 4 x 4 but it can be reached by car and very carefully. It is an effort that is worth. Take food and water since there there is nothing just a gendarmerie camp. From Mendoza take Route 40 to Pareditas and then follow this route until the gravel which is marked. After a ride of approx. 45 minutes is a detachment of gendarmerie where is should be noted. They are then 2 hours. gravel and I saw, but go, will not regret.

  • It is a long trip from the city of Mendoza but worth, takes place on Sunday Huentata and you happen to look like 6 am. It is a beautiful natural formations created by the eruption of the Maipo create unique forms; The lagoon is everything one expects from nature, and wind permitting you can dine on their shores. Water ice that freezes to the marrow but it is almost mandatory to get at least the feet wet. There is a place for camping and campfires.
