Laguna del Diamante is a lake located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, in the San Carlos Department, some 198 km from Mendoza. It covers a surface area of about 14.1 km² and is one of the largest freshwater resources in the Province. Nearby is Maipo volcano. The volcano and its reflection in the lake forms diamond-shape image, which gives the lake its name. It is known for its stunning beauty. However, few get the chance to see it because it is passable only in February and only via an off-road vehicle. The lake was described by Antoine de Saint Exupéry in his book Wind, Sand and Stars as quoted, "...he caught sight of a dark horizontal blot which he recognized as a lake Laguna Diamante".

  • This pond is located in the middle of the Cordilleras of the Andes in argentina, specifically in the province of SAN Carlo-Mendoza. The way to get into the pond consists of a route that makes in his own car. The value to enter to do the course is $100.00 pesos (worth it). Until you get to the pond, you will enjoy fantastic landscapes with mountains, waterfalls, ice and Guanacos (animal). The pond lies at the foot of the volcano Maipo. Which is an excellent opportunity to meet near a volcano!

  • 200 km from Mendoza. It is a nature reserve which is accessed from December to early March or mid-February. Perfectly controlled by Park Rangers. It seems otherworldly landscapes and immensity. I advise to go high as truck or SUV vehicles. Does not lack double traction. The way is not to be missed, and when these down to the lagoon, the volcano Maipo crazy everything. Not to be missed. There is a company called Huentata which makes this excursion in a 4 x 4 truck. Recommended and very serious.

  • The journey is long, but well worth the effort. you have to be prepared, with drink and food as in the Park doesn't sell anything. take shelter because the climate is changing quickly.
