Hiking Trail Nature / Park
Trek Refugio Frey along the Cerro Catedral, a picturesque mountain shaped by the weather into rocky towers and formations. Named after the hut at the top of the climb, the well-marked trail takes you along the weathered granite spires to the snow-capped peak overlooking a lake in the rock basin. Hike along small streams, forested areas, and finally through the snowy part of the trail that leads to the top. Enjoy the panoramic views along the way and have a refreshing drink at the hut (where you can even stay the night if you choose). The hike in takes 3-4 hours and gets more challenging in the uphill second half. With our online itinerary creator, San Carlos de Bariloche attractions like Refugio Frey can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Beautiful Trek along a well-marked path of medium-low demand. In our case went out from the base of Cerro Catedral, surrounding the Hill, towards the Lake Gutiérrez, then entering a beautiful forest where you can make a stop to rest at the shelter Petricek. continuing 1 km further you will reach the refugio Frey... With wonderful views of the mountains and the Lake. It took us nearly 3 hours. reach and the same again but it is worth doing so.

  • Ya habiamos estado in 2007 but now the challenge was to join three children aged 8, 8 and 10! The demand is moderate but well worth it, come spend the night at the shelter, share breakfast and dinner with people from all over the world, the view and scenery are priceless! Highly recommended!

  • We went the first week of May and the truth we found beautiful travel. The way is simple, but after an hour of road the rest is all uphill. They say that it is a 4 hour drive but at a good pace can be reached in 3 and did the turn two, since we were only during the day. We arrived at the shelter, which has a beautiful view of front, we have lunch something... we took some hot mates sharing with others who had arrived and we went. We saw that the poster indicated that in winter because of snow equipment is needed and is twice as long. We went in May and leaving and during the walk towards heat, the reality is arriving at the refuge it was quite cold, so the advice I read of other people is fundamental and that gave us refuge, with regard to bring sleeping bag.

  • Well worth the 3-hr hike. Excellent mountain views, a small lagoon and stream. You can spend the night if you don't feel like walking back the same day.
  • Fantastic little Refugio is a gorgeous valley with plenty of tread climbing and rock scrambling. Advise anyone to do they Frey por el filo way up. One of the best bikes I've ever done. Good meal and decent pizza and very cool vibe.
  • Great experience spending the night at the camping
  • Absolutely worth the walk up here, outstanding views in winter and I'm sure in Summer it would be amazing for the climbing. Good food in the refugio too
  • Simple, comfortable and beautiful location requiring a good hike
