Museo del Lago Gutierrez, San Carlos de Bariloche

4.5
#1 of 7 in Museums in Province of Rio Negro
In most circumstances travelers avoid small, cramped rooms filled with bones, but at Museo del Lago Gutierrez that's exactly what visitors come for. Built thanks to the passion of Professor Rodolfo Pedro Corsolini, the private archeological museum houses a collection of around 10,000 fossils, rocks, and bones discovered in Patagonia. Have a chat with Professor Corsolini, who can usually be found on site, about the fascinating discoveries and what they tell us about the region. • Amazing Museum, rocks, fossils, stuffed animals and very good willingness and desire to teach on the part of the staff, resolved all our doubts and explained to us about many things with the best wave. Very careful, although small, quaint and full of wisdom. You can also see the work room of one of the paleontologists, who has spent 8 years reconstructing the skeleton of a dinosaur. I recommend a lot, it was the best of Bariloche, just out is also the beach of Lake Gutierrez, and half an hour of walking waterfall Los Duendes. Don't let go, a lot is worth!

  • It is a museum with countless objects, fossils, minerals, models, until an embalmed crocodile! What most surprised us was the friendliness and cordiality of its owner, who is taking all the time to explain us detail about each piece in the Museum. Already a choice not to be missed.

  • Awesome place, Rodolfo is a great source of wisdom and knowledge. Afable and pleasant to talk to about history and also contemporary matters. Fully recommended for people interested in Earth's history, geology and the likes.
  • Said it was open... abierto todo los dias... all the days. But they were not open and had no note as to when they would open. Dissapointing.
  • Small museum full of passion.
  • I was a rainy day. They pay up to minors, $70. It is not a Museum of the place but a collection of stones in the world. I do not come back.

  • Amazing Museum! Very, very full (both in its paleontological branch on its geological). Attention, hospitality and good mood of its people is remarkable. We made them a thousand questions and all were answered with great enthusiasm. Highly recommended!

Where to stay in San Carlos de Bariloche

Despite an abundance of economical lodgings, most budget-friendly options in Bariloche get fully booked well before the start of peak season. Hotels charge the highest rates during popular ski months (July and August), when you're least likely to find a cozy room without a reservation. Mid-range hotels near the town center remain the best option for most tourists, offering car rental and tour arrangements along with the usual amenities like free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and laundry service.
