Circuito Grande, San Carlos de Bariloche

4.5
#24 of 87 in Outdoors in San Carlos de Bariloche
Outdoor Activity
Cruise around Circuito Grande to see craggy mountains and seven pristine lakes, all in one day. Weaving between the seven iconic lakes, then following the Limay and Traful rivers, the circuit spans nearly 250 km (155 mi) and makes for a long day trip. Most recommend driving the circuit counterclockwise to appreciate the best scenery in the morning, and saving the easiest road for the end of the day, when you're tired. Stop for a meal at the lakeside town of Angostura, where you can enjoy a relaxing picnic on the beach. If you feel like more of a physical challenge, cycle the route over a handful of days, camping along the way. Put Circuito Grande into our San Carlos de Bariloche family vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • This circuit goes from Bariloche North on route 231, then 40 (villa La Angostura-1 hour) from there northward up to Portezuelo approx. Right leaves route 65 Provincial Villa traful: a few meters of asphalt and then 30km.de gravel seated, 45' some saws, but for any auto... The Center reached the Villa (the Lake is the most beautiful thing that you can see) there are a couple of miles of asphalt, all very nice and care. Continuing in the same direction we were going, about 5 km. is the vantage point of the Traful (impossible not see it) and stop forced to observe a Majesty that take away the air!. Once recovered from so much beauty, continue about 30 km until joining the route 237 (direction to Bariloche, on the right). This last section from the parador to route 237, is almost not sinuous and almost everything in 4a.y you can go to in 5a. (30/35 minutes). There is a single "fork" where one may doubt: is follow or cross a bridge: Cross is the right choice! (I Goofed and completed me the road a few miles) All this area is called the enchanted Valley and the rock formations are truly incredible. Entering then Bariloche.Disponer about 8-9 hours at least, but the path is fantastic and very varied. You can also do everything in reverse...!

  • I LOVED IT!!!! I think is more worthwhile than the boat ride. At least we take more ... We went through different landscapes, beautiful views and interesting cities-Villa Angostura has a main street for a short walk or meal (but the tour passes through streets of summer houses etc) and after a little Villa Traful and interesting city (where we had lunch). Soon near has a wonderful lookout-worth it up and enjoy. Recommend this interesting walk

Where to stay in San Carlos de Bariloche

Despite an abundance of economical lodgings, most budget-friendly options in Bariloche get fully booked well before the start of peak season. Hotels charge the highest rates during popular ski months (July and August), when you're least likely to find a cozy room without a reservation. Mid-range hotels near the town center remain the best option for most tourists, offering car rental and tour arrangements along with the usual amenities like free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and laundry service.
