Train to the Clouds (El Tren a las Nubes), Salta
(3.8/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
True to its name, Train to the Clouds (El Tren a las Nubes) will literary take you over the clouds, which touch the base of a dramatic viaduct hovering across a desert canyon. Argentina's most famous rail trip starts at Salta and continues through a valley and up mountains slopes, over turbulent rivers, and past the ruins of a pre-Incan settlement. The journey only stops in a dusty mining town and over a canyon 4,220 m (13,845 ft) above sea level. Ride through spiral tunnels and over bridges while listening to piped music and enjoying the scenic landscape and the railroad's engineering wonders. The service includes snacks and medical assistance, as well as vendors selling empanadas and coca leaves to help with altitude sickness. Put Train to the Clouds (El Tren a las Nubes) into our Salta trip builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • It's definitely a tour that should be done sometime in the life. The tour is very well organized, punctual and professional. Well worth the cost ($ 1.500,00) from Salta Capital.

  • Visit valleys and salteñas ravines in the classic train to the clouds or in automobile is one of the best rides of Argentina, leaving from Salta capital, after San Antonio de los Cobres to reach this incredible railway construction.

  • Unfortunately during my stay in Salta the train was out of service, but you can enjoy the routes that run parallel to the way much of the way and make the trip in vehicle recommended 4 x 4 traction, but I could see normal cars, road is gravel in some sections but with good weather has greater difficulty in driving. It is advisable to take good coat when it comes to lowering the car to contemplate landscapes and pictures. Trip not to be missed!
