  • The Museum of fine arts of Salta runs at the headquarters of the building known as La Casona Usandivaras. This construction is French, from the beginning of the 20th century and was inaugurated in December 2008 with samples of the invaluable artistic heritage of the province. The building has more than 1,000 m2 distributed over two floors and has been renovated, expanded and adapted to his new role. The museum boasts 245 m2 of exhibition space for temporary floor samples and 166 m2, on the first floor, to the permanent collection. It has a specialized library, Auditorium, shop and Bar. The Museum of fine arts of Salta treasures and dignifies the rich history of the local plastic and is one of the oldest in the country. For example, the painting view of the city of Salta from the top of cerro San Bernardo, Italian painter Carlo Penutti, which is one of the most important bastions of the Museum, was acquired by the Provincial Government in the mid-19th century. Although the effective establishment of the first public museum in Salta is performed on July 9, 1930, thanks to the contribution of the engineer Rafael Patricio Sosa, under the name of Colonial, historical Museum and fine arts. Its first headquarters was the building of the Council of education, current Museum of archaeology of high mountain. In 1945 he was transferred to the ground floor of the historic Cabildo and in 1981, by a declaration signed by delegates of the provincial Commission and the National Commission of museums, monuments and historical sites, the collections were divided by moving the arts plastic to the Arias Rengel House in the calle Florida 20, declared a national historic monument under the name of Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes. Finally on 20 December of the year 2008 the Governor of the province, Dr. Juan Manuel Urtubey, inaugurates the remodelling of the Casona Usandivaras, which is currently home to the Museum of fine arts of Salta. The Museum has, among its collections, with: religious art of the eighteenth century; Art of the 19th century; works by artists such as: Ernesto Scotti, Aristene Papi, Ramiro Dávalos, Guillermo Usandivaras, María Martorell, Carlos L. García Bes (straw), Luis Preti, Osvaldo Juane, Jorge Hugo Román, Rodolfo Argenti, Elsa Salfity and so many artists from Salta that left their mark on the art of early and mid-20th century. It also has a room of pre-Columbian art that integrates to the permanent collection, demonstrations of our pre-Hispanic past that many local artists were nurtured.
