Cerro San Bernardo, Salta

4.4
#1 of 27 in Parks in Province of Salta
Hike or take a cable car up to Cerro San Bernardo for sweeping views over town. Rising 285 m (935 ft) above the city, the hill once stood as an island in a prehistoric sea--as evidenced now by a huge number of fossils and geological layers under its surface. A funicular from the city's central square whisks you up to the summit, where the plain and surrounding hills form an expansive landscape. Alternatively, tackle the 1,000-plus steps to the top of the hill. Keep an eye out for city landmarks like churches and stadiums emerging below. • Beautiful ride up walking (if given the physical state) or by taxi (they are cheap) and down with the cable car. Above there should be better regional jobs. Note the sources of water that you give a special touch to the ride and waterfalls are beautiful in the photos. The mountain has beautiful views of the city. I recommend the visit.

  • We got travel by cable car, very quiet. From the top you can see the beautiful city of Salta. There are spectrum above: sell crafts. also there for a drink looking at the city. You can climb by car also. Then we went walking the Hill by the stairs, takes a while, wear protective against mosquitoes. Very nice ride.

  • I wanted to love this place after reading good reviews, but it had some huge problems. First of all, it was 80 degrees when we went, so this only applies to hot days. The tram is not ventilated, it has teeny windows on one side and no cross breeze so by the time we got to the top is what close to 100 degrees in the car. Then we expected to have a set of trails to walk, but there were a couple of incomprehensible signs about what to do. Both of these seem easy to fix, and would have made a big difference to us.
  • You have a very nice view over the city from the top of the hill!
  • A good play to hang out
  • Rather expensive, but the view from the top is nice.
  • Fantastic view of the city of Salta from the top of the mountain

Where to stay in Salta

Salta's status as the tourist hub of northwestern Argentina means that a wide array of accommodations has sprung up throughout the city. The majority are concentrated around the city's grid-like center, surrounding Plaza 9 de Julio. For something more relaxed and closer to nature, go southeast and explore the area around Parque San Martin. You can opt for anything from a healthy range of budget accommodations, including hostels and small guesthouses, all the way to luxury hotels.
