Cerro San Bernardo, Salta
(4.3/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web)
Hike or take a cable car up to Cerro San Bernardo for sweeping views over town. Rising 285 m (935 ft) above the city, the hill once stood as an island in a prehistoric sea--as evidenced now by a huge number of fossils and geological layers under its surface. A funicular from the city's central square whisks you up to the summit, where the plain and surrounding hills form an expansive landscape. Alternatively, tackle the 1,000-plus steps to the top of the hill. Keep an eye out for city landmarks like churches and stadiums emerging below. Plan your visit to Cerro San Bernardo and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Salta travel itinerary maker.

  • It is just 1 km to the East of the central square Plaza 9 de Julio in the city of Salta, is accessible by car, cable car or by the stairs. Above you have to buy or eat something, baths and an incredible view of the entire city. It is certainly a trip not to be missed if you were to Salta.

  • It is a ride that you can not stop doing if you are going to Salta. The cost in November 2016, is ARS 150 ascent and descent. Above, when we went, they were repairing the road inside the Hill, so we couldn't do it, and we went a bit that has to walk from the cable car base. We were that it was noon, and confectionery, we call empanadas - delicious - and serve with a pitcher of lemonade liter which, further, has been the best we tested. The view from there ensures that you are worth all the grief. And the relaxation in the Hill, is a rest for such maelstrom everyday.
