#29 of 69 in Things to do in Salta
Enjoy an elegant meal, sample regional wines, or sip on a Pisco sour at Castillo de San Lorenzo, an Italian-built castle dating back over a century. The medieval-style structure dates back to the late 19th century, when Luigi Bartoletti (married to a lady of Salta) commissioned a residence in the "castello" style of his native Italy. Nowadays it functions as a hotel, with a luxurious restaurant, bar, and cafe. For Castillo de San Lorenzo and beyond, use our Salta trip planner to get the most from your Salta vacation.

  • We went to know the place... this very taken care of. The beautiful gardens! And then we had lunch. Very good attention. Very well served and tasty dishes. I would without hesitation.

  • It is true, it is surprising how it changes the vegetation in this region. Moisture is present in the environment. We had a snack with hot chocolate and cakes in a House of tea, nice tour, finishing of the citytour.

  • Beautiful place to take the you. Nicely decorated and cared. Up the ravine of San lorenzo is the Castle. You can go by taxi or also in buses that stops 50 metres away. If it follows the quebrada de San Lorenzo, climbing, you will find a beautiful river by which vera you can walk.

  • Great experience here! Incredable place! The staff are good. Food is excellent. We met the American owner, John, who made us feel very welcome!
  • A great venue for a reception. A little slow with the drink service, but otherwise perfect.
  • Very nice place, with a splendid decoration. We went to have lunch. Too bad that did not accept credit or debit card and not gave us invoice, the excuse was not the person who made them. A penalty. He would not return. The taxes you have to pay them!

  • The dishes are very good. Very well maintained and decorated rooms. The place is spectacular, full of antiques and very well located in the quebrada de San Lorenzo. The prices are in line. The service has aspects to improve.

  • Very nice place in full nature. The prices are expensive: room as well as the food (pointing foreign tourism). The attention is good but half slow.

Where to stay in Salta

Salta's status as the tourist hub of northwestern Argentina means that a wide array of accommodations has sprung up throughout the city. The majority are concentrated around the city's grid-like center, surrounding Plaza 9 de Julio. For something more relaxed and closer to nature, go southeast and explore the area around Parque San Martin. You can opt for anything from a healthy range of budget accommodations, including hostels and small guesthouses, all the way to luxury hotels.
