4.2/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web
Visit an atmospheric place of worship at Iglesia de Santa Rosa de Lima, a colonial-era structure dating back to the mid-17th century. The church's whitewashed exterior is in keeping with the style of similar buildings from the same period, while the ceiling--made from local cactus plants--adds a rustic and aged charm to the interior. Step inside to find 17th-century paintings depicting scenes from the Bible and the history of Catholicism in the country, including episodes from the life of Santa Rosa de Lima, the first saint native to the New World. The church dominates the main town square along with an impressive tree, said to be more than a thousand years old. • In the three days I spent in Purmamarca, I went several times to the Church. Really amazing old paintings more a confessional and a lectern of the century XVII made with wood from cardon. At night, illuminated, looks more, including the cross of its Atrium.
