Peninsula Valdes, Puerto Madryn

4.6
#2 of 14 in Wildlife in Puerto Madryn
Mostly barren land speckled with several salt lakes and a coastline inhabited by marine mammals, Peninsula Valdes represents an important wildlife reserve and a World Heritage Site. Look out for the endangered southern right whales that mate in the gulf between the peninsula and the mainland from May to December. The island also supports sea lions, elephant seals, Magellanic penguins, Antarctic pigeons, and indigenous species like the rhea and the guanaco. Sheep ranches occupy most of the peninsula's inland. The only town within the peninsula--nestled in a bay surrounded by cliffs--offers lodgings, restaurants, some shops, and an information center featuring a full right whale skeleton and an observation tower. An old lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula has been turned into a hotel. • Prachtigpark with beautiful nature and many variety of animals. Do great distances that have to be made to see.

  • We drove the car for a long time, but it was worth it: flora and fauna are really well protected. Is a National Park and you must pay an entrance fee (expensive).

  • The peninsula Valdez is a journey worth absolutely. What you get to see there in one day is really incredible. Whales of penguins to baby owls. For nature and animal lovers a must

  • Beautiful place, full of animals.
  • Check seasonal appearance of wildlife
  • It's also back to a difficult situation with the correct rating! Sometimes, you would already like to subtract a star because there's so infinitely many visitors that the actual value of the attraction this will pull affected. But: these regions deserve for that? I my no. So full marks. The peninsula (or you can go the way there or the few boats with which to the whales) is run over just mercilessly during the high season, but the impressions you can record, are still this sacrifice with throngs of chattering South American () and also Chinese and Japanese) to move groups together, worth. The boat tours to the whales are unforgettable and the small boats approaching close to the giants of the sea. I always watch the nature and also against these "whale hunt" which you get as in other places of the world, but here in the Bay, the whales are completely relaxed and so also the boat Guide! It was the best whale watching trips I've made in my life. The colonies of elephant seals and the rich bird life are staggering. An amazing experience for all senses!

  • 100% nature. Beautiful landscapes: sea, cliffs and plateau. Great variety of fauna: killer whales, elephant seals, sea lions, guekos, Rhea, guanaco, cameras, etc. Native plants of the Patagonian area.
