Salto del Tabaquillo, Merlo

4.7
#4 of 10 in Nature in Province of San Luis
Ideal for tourists into hiking and outdoor adventures, the trek to Salto del Tabaquillo requires a serious scramble up a path that follows a river and passes a string of smaller waterfalls. The main falls tumble over a vegetated cliff into a base pool, where you can swim and cool off. Hiring a tour guide is recommended unless you already know the trail. • We walk from the arch to the tabaquillo jump. Three hours we climbed up to the point. We start the route until you reach the municipal reserve, after passing through the viewpoint of the Eagle, there is a descent to the River, which have to cross to grab a path, which can only be a person who begins to climb through the sierra. At some point the road ends and low river. We must continue going up there. The walk is hacible but in some places it presents challenges. Rocks that have to climb with difficult points of grip, a cave which must pass and climb out the other side, among others. It is important to wear comfortable shoes, a glass for charging water river (drinking is) and some shelter because it can cool suddenly and lifting wind. The return to the reserve took us one hour and a half, was far easier than the climb. Actually neither my partner nor I believe that it is necessary to go with a guide. It is difficult to get lost if you follow the river. It is worth reaching the tabaquillo jump, it is really very beautiful.

  • We went with a guide we hired at the foot of the sierra. It was amazing. I do not agree with those who say that it is not worth going with guide, which should make it solo. You can climb following the cause Brook, but in our case the guide we was talking about the flora and fauna of the place and also us to take corners to make it more fun (in a moment made us pass through a kind of cave forming stones and why should) (pass if or if of profile by the close). Also the tour with guide is not near the stream if that is not the area of pastures, on a dirt road far more easy, but having difficulty in a very little width and the sense of precipio giving (some of my group discovered that they had vertigo in this (part and had to do it sitting). The jump itself is cute, but the journey seemed much more cute and entertaining there.

  • If you have good physical condition animate, a walk, suitable for children from the age of 8, is quite long, but you enjoy every minute of the landscape. Very convenient to do it with a specialized guide. We went with Germán Romero, you should carry food for lunch looking at the jump. Not to be missed for those who like trekking.
