Plaza Espana, Mendoza

4.0
#1 of 9 in Historic Sites in Mendoza
Framed by lush vegetation, Plaza Espana features tiled benches, a central space with a fountain, and a large monument in the back, which stands as a testament to the founding of the city. The most distinctive feature of the square are the mosaics made of painted tiles, which cover the benches, the fountain floor, flowerpots, and the base of the monument. The tiled friezes depict scenes from the discovery of America and the work of the missionaries. Two powerful female figures of travertine marble represent Spain and Argentina. High school kids often use the square as a skating ground. To plan Mendoza vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • Beautiful square, this conditioning, has a very cute and flora with posters of all the names of the plants and trees of the square. Games for kids, a source in perfect operation and spectacular majolica in each corner of the square. It is worth stopping to admire these works of art and breathe the pure air under its lush vegetation and a few good mates-together with squares of San Martín, Chile and Italy make up a symmetry with the perimeter of the plaza Independencia space, which occupies the four core blocks of all its scope. The plaza of Spain has its origins in the remodeling of the city after the 1861 earthquake that devastated the provincial capital. Square is distributed, forming a central space with a typical Spanish patios source and background a central monument of Spain square is formed with travertine marble of San Juan divided into two parts: the figure of the woman, as a symbol of Spain. The figure of a young woman, as a symbol of Argentina attached photo, did you useful?

  • They would have to take care of her a little more. The murals are gorgeous and the water dancers also. Perhaps if they fix it a bit it would be a big tourist attraction

  • Nice park but looks run down and the graffiti is on some of the monument.
  • Wunderful place ! But as some other commented some people disrespected the place and tag it...
  • Linda nada expectacular
  • This is the second most beautiful square in town, after Plaza Independencia. It's ideal to read a book, to relax or simply to take pics.
  • Beatiful

Where to stay in Mendoza

As the center of Argentina's wine industry, Mendoza offers plenty of conventional hostel and hotel options, as well as a good selection of short-term apartments for rent. Visitors taking language courses or spending several weeks on the wine route usually snatch these early in the tourist season (which lasts from mid-December to late-February), so it's a good idea to do some research and contact the owners before you arrive. Keep in mind that some of the town's hostels only offer beds to guests signed up for their wine tours.
