Plaza Espana, Mendoza

(850+ reviews on the web)
Historic Walking Area
Framed by lush vegetation, Plaza Espana features tiled benches, a central space with a fountain, and a large monument in the back, which stands as a testament to the founding of the city. The most distinctive feature of the square are the mosaics made of painted tiles, which cover the benches, the fountain floor, flowerpots, and the base of the monument. The tiled friezes depict scenes from the discovery of America and the work of the missionaries. Two powerful female figures of travertine marble represent Spain and Argentina. High school kids often use the square as a skating ground. • it is quite nice even to walk at night, nothing special though, but worth to visit if you are in town  more »
  • This square honoring his name, recalls the mudejar style of some Spanish sites for its mosaics. When it was remodeled years ago it was a "luxury" for the city. These days I have come twice and it caught my attention because it is careless. Yes, I would say that there are citizens who do not care for the beautiful places that make a pleasant city fame. Broken tiles and mainly those who correspond to the steps. The design is very nice and the now inadequate signage. Anyway it is still very nice but lacks the touch which means, that it does not appear with carelessness.

  • This is the second most beautiful square in town, after Plaza Independencia. It's ideal to read a book, to relax or simply to take pics.
  • La plaza más linda de MZA Capital.
  • A small but nice shady plaza with interesting monuments and some restaurants nearby
