Plaza Espana, Mendoza

4.0
#1 of 9 in Historic Sites in Mendoza
Framed by lush vegetation, Plaza Espana features tiled benches, a central space with a fountain, and a large monument in the back, which stands as a testament to the founding of the city. The most distinctive feature of the square are the mosaics made of painted tiles, which cover the benches, the fountain floor, flowerpots, and the base of the monument. The tiled friezes depict scenes from the discovery of America and the work of the missionaries. Two powerful female figures of travertine marble represent Spain and Argentina. High school kids often use the square as a skating ground. To plan Mendoza vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • Mendoza rides are not clean! lack cutting grass and maintenance. The shade is fine. The design is closer to the moro q to the Spanish. The monument is good

  • It is a very nice place, you have a beautiful majolica, but it is a pity that van teens with his skateboard and destroy these works, that would have to strive to preserve this heritage of all and be able to enjoy it as it is.

  • Very pleasant square. Loved the colourful tiles. Great for reading a book.
  • Excellent place to admire nice architecture of a square. It's a shame it looks deteriorated.
  • Nice place to go with friends and have fun
  • Nice park but looks run down and the graffiti is on some of the monument.
  • Excellent place to visit

Where to stay in Mendoza

As the center of Argentina's wine industry, Mendoza offers plenty of conventional hostel and hotel options, as well as a good selection of short-term apartments for rent. Visitors taking language courses or spending several weeks on the wine route usually snatch these early in the tourist season (which lasts from mid-December to late-February), so it's a good idea to do some research and contact the owners before you arrive. Keep in mind that some of the town's hostels only offer beds to guests signed up for their wine tours.
