Mercado Central, Mendoza

#5 of 23 in Shopping in Mendoza
Stock up on groceries at Mercado Central, a vibrant, colorful city center market with oodles of premium meat, fish, and green produce under one roof. A wide variety of pork, chicken, fish, and beef make up a significant portion of the stalls, and nothing goes to waste: customers can choose anything from entrails and intestines to the more conventional cuts. If, however, the sight of whole gutted animals hanging upside down might upset you, steer clear. • YEAHHHH... this central market in the capital city of Mendoza has a space exhibiting antiques such as scales, recording machines, desks and multiple small objects that we back to its principles... back in the nineteenth century en1884. That year was built the first commercial gallery in the province with access to three streets, giving it the name of "Central market passage". His mentor was the businessman Luis Lavoissier who built adobe walls and roofless stone porches so you officiate fair. Most of the seats were occupied by immigrants who should be at night to take care of because porches were entrance of carts that came with provisions. That main street where entered was called until 1900 as "las carretas Street" but then with the advent of the railway in 1885 was told him "of the railway" for more late mentioning it as "immigrants" and then "Palms" Boulevard. TODAY IT IS AV. LAS HERAS. The food and spices of all kinds, you can find places to enjoy a breakfast or lunch or the classic fritter stalls. Its vitality is incredible and smells, tastes and colours combine to make you spend a day different and joyful! Told us that in the last century they toured artists like our CARLOS GARDEL and MARIO MORENO "Cantinflas" Mexican galleries!

  • Amazing place where you can get several local dishes. I recommend empanadas. Just be aware they close for siesta, so between 13.30 to 17.00 likely you'll find them closed.
  • In the middle of town, but a much better option for fresh produce then supermarkets. Closes for siesta! From about 13h to 17h..... Good little restaurants available also, these do not close.
