Laguna de la Nina Encantada, Mendoza
(4.4/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Keep an eye out for natural (and supernatural) activity at Laguna de la Nina Encantada, where extinct volcanic lava rises over the lake's calm blue surface. The lush microclimate here includes abundant flowers and birds nesting in the rock walls' holes. Walk, bike, or drive along the lake to take in the vivid colors and peaceful scenery. Many believe that the sapphire lake is haunted by the ghost of an indigenous princess who drowned in the icy water with her lover many centuries ago. According to legend, the princess Elcha was due to marry a Pehuenche prince, but instead fell for a common man. She and her lover fled their families and, in their haste, tumbled into the freezing pit. On a moonlit night, you might just catch a glimpse of Elcha as she comes out in search of her long-lost love. Laguna de la Nina Encantada is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Las Heras Edition.

  • It is located on the way to Las Lenas and is signposted on the road so that you find it, since it is somewhat hidden. To get there is to leave the car in a place prepared for parking and walk cross a picturesque bridge (El Puente Elcha). To enter the lagoon there are to pay a ticket ($25) and a few meters ahead is the same. It is a very small pond, surrounded by mountains and with a beautiful legend, where you can breathe an air of peace and tranquility... Did not seem an extraordinary ride, nor something that I have dazzled, but worth knowing it and enjoy it as every gift that nature provides us.

  • It is an excursion to pass. It is very hidden, it is difficult to find without a guide. It is very cute the lagoon and incomparable tranquility, beautiful place to visit.
