Bodega Los Toneles, Mendoza

#22 of 46 in Wineries in Mendoza
Embark on a flavorful journey through time at Bodega Los Toneles, reminiscent of Argentina's golden age. Declared a site of Mendoza's cultural heritage, the winery impresses visitors with its art nouveau details and ornaments, its selection of wines, and its restaurant serving traditional Argentinean dishes, such as dry-aged meat. The Armando family founded the winery in 1922; today a visit here will enlighten you about the process of winemaking and about the history of wine in the region. The oldest wing of the winery, with its thick walls and a timber-lined ceiling, gives a rural touch to the whole place. • In the month of February 2018 went for lunch to Abrasado which is the restaurant that specializes in matured meat (preserve the meat between 1 and 3 degrees for 30 days) of the winery barrels. Note when you start to eat the eye of beef that had been requested had something white that came out of a hole and pull it and my 3 companions all exhibitions were sure that it was a worm, call the waiter and seeing what had happened to me only managed to tell me it was the first time something happened so, takes the meat and the worm and tells me that he is going to the kitchen. Returns to the 10 or 15 minutes with the piece of flesh all torn to show me that had nothing more and that that was a tendon, it is rare that the tendon disappeared and never more it again to see if that was a tendon could have saved to return to mostrarrlo and convince us that was so and not make it disappear, but beyond that the apologies were never on the part of anyone in the place. Luckily before calling the young man take some pictures so I only show photos and you draw conclusions... If you go anyway, I recommend to cut the meat into small pieces.

  • This is a Central Warehouse so easy to be achieved. We did a tour of the facility that are old and have been restored ... the breakfast was excellent with matured meat that are exposed in cold rooms and the whole meal, the dishes were harmonised with the wines ... recommend the wine Mosquitia Muerta, blend! We made huge purchases on output

  • Travel is Winery takes you back in time. The new owners have managed to keep beyond what has been done by early in the 20th century and add new technology to manufacture an excellent wine. Our companion excellent Valeria in their explanations. Not to be missed visit!
