Bodega Los Toneles, Mendoza

4.5
#20 of 47 in Wineries in Mendoza
Winery / Vineyard Food & Drink
Embark on a flavorful journey through time at Bodega Los Toneles, reminiscent of Argentina's golden age. Declared a site of Mendoza's cultural heritage, the winery impresses visitors with its art nouveau details and ornaments, its selection of wines, and its restaurant serving traditional Argentinean dishes, such as dry-aged meat. The Armando family founded the winery in 1922; today a visit here will enlighten you about the process of winemaking and about the history of wine in the region. The oldest wing of the winery, with its thick walls and a timber-lined ceiling, gives a rural touch to the whole place. • Instead of walking hours until the famous bodegas and distant of Mendoza, this little gem is 10 minutes by taxi from Plaza Independencia. Book a visit with lunch or dinner. Great gastronomic experience and winemaker at a price more than cheap. The waiters are still getting used to tourists, but the service is great.

Where to stay in Mendoza

As the center of Argentina's wine industry, Mendoza offers plenty of conventional hostel and hotel options, as well as a good selection of short-term apartments for rent. Visitors taking language courses or spending several weeks on the wine route usually snatch these early in the tourist season (which lasts from mid-December to late-February), so it's a good idea to do some research and contact the owners before you arrive. Keep in mind that some of the town's hostels only offer beds to guests signed up for their wine tours.
