Bodega Familia Di Tommaso, Maipu

(4.2/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Wine enthusiasts will find plenty to appreciate at Bodega Familia Di Tommaso, an artisanal winery built by iconic architect Lopez Frugoni in 1869. A tour of this quaint and charming bodega walks you through the winemaking process using modern machinery, and also fills you in on the history of the vineyard. The winery originally sourced all materials from Europe, bricks from England, machinery from France and Italy, and cement from Germany; many of these are now on display at the onsite museum. The owners conduct tasting tours in both Spanish and English. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Bodega Familia Di Tommaso by using our Maipu vacation builder.

  • The cellar of the family of Thomas with adobe walls is one of the oldest in the province of Mendoza and is dated 1869. Still inside the old brick barrels (imported from England) and cement (imported from Germany) that currently are used to mature the bottles. The family of Thomas (of Friulian origin) currently manages this Winery whose first owners, the fam. Raul José Guevara were among the first to plant vines of Malbec in Mendoza. Interesting the irrigation system with canals here called Acequias

  • It is a small cellar where tourists can appreciate the process of making wine in Mendoza on a scale not industrialized. Nice to know.

  • Nice little area out front door eating a small meal from the restaurant. Great wine. Should have gotten a box
  • Small family bodega, interesting proposed tasting with 1 young wine and 2 reserva wines (who spent time in the barrel). Not done the visit but can be seen in the main the oldest "tank" room of the region in which the bottles are now stored.
