Antigua Bodega Giol, Maipu

4.3
#4 of 16 in Historic Sites in Province of Mendoza
Discover the production processes and sample the wares at Antigua Bodega Giol, once recognized as the world’s largest winery. The intriguing bodega has a rich history, with founders Juan Giol and Bautista Gargantini partnering up in 1887 to open the winery’s doors officially in 1898, more than 10 years later. Take a tour to understand the history of the vineyard and hear some interesting tales, such why the logo emblazoned on all wines and all over the factory is that of a bull. Tours culminate, of course, in the customary tasting sessions that experienced wine tourists will be more than familiar with. A visit to Antigua Bodega Giol represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Maipu road trip site to plot your vacation.

  • The visit lasts about 30 minutes and the other 20 or 30 tasting. The Guide (do not remember the name) very cool and gave us the necessary service. It cost $150 in total, and we tasted 4 wines. We were in love with one (RODI VINTAGE) very very rich. While no longer it occurs there, it is a lot of history, it was the largest in the world was very good. History, learn about the greatest of all Coop (75,000 liters). If you can, go. It is close to Lopez and the visit to both places can be made the same day.

  • We arrived at the winery crossing about 40 metres from the entrance, a beautiful day and their office hours from 11 to 18 hs. The tour lasts approximately 30 min and gives the option of tasting ($120 total). The Winery is beautiful and full of history, with a well-planned reccorido. Use to take pictures and see Coop mas grande del mundo. You can also see in a shop of wines and other delicacies.

  • Great tour with Marisol! The premise is huge and seeing all the huge barrels and the big wine cellar is quite impressive. The wines were not quite to our liking but the tour is definitely worth to go!  more »
