Iglesia San Ponciano, La Plata

3.9
Step inside Iglesia San Ponciano for some quiet reflection inside a grand 19th-century Catholic church. As opposed to the classic Roman basilica style, this structure features an eclectic mix of architecture drawing from a number of influences, predominantly Gothic. In 1997 Pope John Paul II awarded it the title of basilica. Take in the ornate stylings of the carvings and central spire. The main plaza and the local government building lie within a stone's throw, so consider combining your visit with other nearby attractions. • A beautiful church, the first basilica in the city, located in the Centre, very close to Plaza San Martin, about 80 diagonal. With outstanding Interior ornamentation and restoration process, it is worth knowing it.

  • The Church was the first cathedral of La Plata. Featuring it is interesting, but unfortunately it is in very poor condition. The interior is painted by hand.

  • It is a beautiful church, but it suffers from the soil movements. I lived less than a hundred metres for 10 years and had no problems with their campaigns. It is worth visiting it.

Where to stay in La Plata

Many of La Plata's accommodation options lie within the geometric square of the city core, which plays home to a majority of the town's tourist attractions. The variety of mid-range hotels in the city center keeps prices reasonably low; many of these are located in historic buildings just a few blocks from central Plaza Morena and within easy walking distance to the museum of La Plata, the cathedral, and main road arteries. If you're on a tight budget, consider staying at one of the city center's many hostels; though you'll likely be sharing a room with others in bunk beds, the low prices make them economical options.
