Iglesia San Ponciano, La Plata

(4.2/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
Step inside Iglesia San Ponciano for some quiet reflection inside a grand 19th-century Catholic church. As opposed to the classic Roman basilica style, this structure features an eclectic mix of architecture drawing from a number of influences, predominantly Gothic. In 1997 Pope John Paul II awarded it the title of basilica. Take in the ornate stylings of the carvings and central spire. The main plaza and the local government building lie within a stone's throw, so consider combining your visit with other nearby attractions. • Neo-Gothic style that predominates, but there is mixture of styles. Is small and "reloaded", very ornate. He officiated as the first cathedral of the city of La Plata, and the project was Pedro Benoit. It has several ships with various statues of Saints and virgins. It has a German organ which is the largest in the city.
