Curutchet House, La Plata

4.5
#6 of 15 in Sightseeing in La Plata
Landmark Tourist Spot
Visit Curutchet House, an architectural wonder designer by Le Corbusier, constructed in 1949. The mainly white house features four floors and incorporates a ramp and spiral staircase located between the house and the medical office on the first floor. It took four years to build and is the only work by the architect in Argentina. The facade of the house is a brise-soleil, a feature that is designed to reduce heat by deflecting sunlight. Where to stay in La Plata

Many of La Plata's accommodation options lie within the geometric square of the city core, which plays home to a majority of the town's tourist attractions. The variety of mid-range hotels in the city center keeps prices reasonably low; many of these are located in historic buildings just a few blocks from central Plaza Morena and within easy walking distance to the museum of La Plata, the cathedral, and main road arteries. If you're on a tight budget, consider staying at one of the city center's many hostels; though you'll likely be sharing a room with others in bunk beds, the low prices make them economical options.

  • The only work in south america for Le Corbusier (pioneer swiss architect) If you are foreigner you'll pay 150 pesos, if local 60 or 30, if local student 15 pesos. You have about 30 minutes to visit all the house alone. Take photos and set a little bit on the terrace. There are sketches for the place exhibited on 2nd floor, plus some of the house plans & sections.
