  • We were in Pucón and we should return to Argentina was our next night in Villa la Angostura, reading about the different steps we say to go and cross through Mamuil Malal (ex Tromen), excellent decision, the landscapes are beautiful, from Chile are smoky houses, pure smell of charcoal, sheep, cows and beautiful vegetation, the route is the CH199, completely asphalted It has some curves, but is in very good condition. Nothing of dizziness or go wrong. Otherwise, enjoy! It is the step lowest of all, 1253 metres, which makes that it does not close in almost throughout the year, except for some climate issue. The best thing is to follow on twitter account @UPfronterizos is a Chilean account and they are constantly informing the status of all the steps and their live schedule. And another account of argentina is the Chilean side @fronterasMinSeg only we present papers and still, is a small Department with three offices and all arrangements are made there both people coming by car as in collective (if you see that comes a collective is coming soon but you have all these people ahead). On the Argentine side, there are three people in immigration and two customs, we declare something that we had bought and luckily it was the posnet (only master, visa didn't take it), there are no money exchange and if you got that pay a surplus I recommend having a plan b If the posnet does not walk (or have cash), is 100 km from the nearest village with ATM (San Martin de los Andes) and if you don't pay they can confiscate you what you've purchased. They are u add $150 per person if you go as a couple and if you've got children or$ 75 each. They treated us very well and we follow. As soon as crosses from Chile to Argentina the asphalt ends, they are 10 km, then continuous asphalt is the area of the National Park. Hours are from 8 to 20 hours, before crossing they must assess at that time of the year are and the times of entry and exit of each country. The rest to contemplate landscapes.

  • We left at 6: 30 pm of San Martín de Los Andes with destination to Pucón in Chile. To Junín de Los Andes by the good RN40, then the RP23 this well signposted and arriving at the narrow bridge over the Río Malleo, we turned to the RP60. At the time approx. began the dawn, in Lanin National Park, watching the first views of the Lanin volcano that accompanies us, hits us the Millennium forest of Araucaria, continuing until you reach the border Paso Mamuil Malal (Ex Tromen). There are sectors of the road with gravel, with serruchitos in general and is convenient to do so with caution... Arrived to the few minutes of the time of attention, the 8 hs. He was aware of the timetable change in Chile and is good to know it for the return trip... There were few to cross in customs, paperwork were fast. Everyone should get to make the immigration paperwork! On the Chilean side controls opened the doors of the vehicle, so the glove box, without saying a Word... We entered the National Park Villarrica, very good route, well signposted, winding in several sections, with vantage points and attractive vegetation. The limit for purchases in Chile without paying surcharges is u $s150 per capita. The total trip between ida and return was of 400 km. got 19.30 hs to SMA and spend a nice day!
