Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Esquel

4.8
#1 of 10 in Things to do in Esquel
Wildlife Area Nature / Park
Parque Nacional Los Alerces earned a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list due to its vast forests of some of the world's longest-living trees, its glacial cirques, and its pristine lakes. Snowy mountain peaks create the background for 1,000- to 3,000-year-old alerce trees, as well as a complex system of four large lakes connected with many rivers and creeks completes the scenery. Created in 1937, the park remains virtually intact since much of it is accessible only by foot. Still, local guides offer fishing trips on the lakes, and many picnic and camping spots can be found in the area. The most scenic walk leads over the suspension bridge over Arrayanes river, while the Torrecillas glacier can be seen from a tour boat.
