  • El Chalten offers in its tracks several opportunities for wonderful views. This sendero despite the hike is worth to be visited.

  • We made this trip in family, in January of 2017. Access must be by vehicle to bridge the electric River and from there in more is continuing on foot. THE first crossing by one of the branches of the river is quite precarious, as we went with my two children from 9 to 14 years, we made a path of stones (the currents had shifted to the existing stones) and we were able to cross without getting wet us boots already than we knew that was waiting for us a walk of low demand in terms of height but quite long. The landscape is very cute, with long forest in Gallery and some incredible views to the glacier and around the massif of el Chalten. The elevation is very low so the boys can do it without problems, logically, making stops every hour to hydrate and relax a little bit. The most amazing is the shelter that is located at the end of the tour (before entering the glacier). Treats you to a charming couple welcomes you with soups, cakes everything necessary to recover energy. Continue climbing which can make night there at the campsite or in the own refuge. It has everything to spend a very pleasant night. We just had lunch and returned to el Chalten, but the experience at the shelter also formed part of the adventure and had super good. Undoubtedly, this trail is one of the treckings that most they will enjoy the views and the low demand.

Where to stay in El Chalten

Thanks to the city's small size, almost all of the accommodation options in El Chalten are within easy walking distance of anything of note in town. Most "hotels" are in fact cozy alpine-style lodges catering to international visitors, and tend to be on the pricier side due to their upscale amenities. Alternatively, you can stay in one of the many campsites outside town, though weather here can be harsh. During the high season in January and February, you'll need to book at least a month or two in advance as lodging fills up fast. Keep in mind that El Chalten depends heavily on seasonal tourism for its income, and many hotels and lodges, particularly smaller, family-run affairs, close down during the winter off-season. On the flip side, many of those that remain open offer lower winter rates.
