4.4
#3 of 6 in Trails in Province of Santa Cruz
Earn an unforgettable view over the jagged Fitz Roy peaks at Miradores Los Condores y Las Aguilas. Embark on the one-hour, self-guided walk from El Chaltén, which leads you along a relatively easy path to a renowned viewpoint. From there, you'll be able to appreciate the distinctive peaks that attract outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection, as well as some cold weather gear to protect against the wind--the lack of shade on the path leaves you exposed to the elements. • The trails are more shorts make to El Chalten. While everything is on rise, it is not of much difficulty. The northern part of El chalten, the people and all the hills is seen from the viewpoint of the condors. A little above from the viewpoint of the Eagles is the southern part, the Viedma Lake and Bay Tunnel. During our ascent, we could see the condors flying over. Safety pin!

  • I didn't have chance to make other paths of many in El Chalten for lack of time, but it was worth this path that is made from the entrance to the village, parked in the cabin of tourist information. It does not have more than one couple of hours, and you can climb though it is not an optimal training. It is a gentle slope which winds through the hills, and ends in a viewpoint from which you can see the entire Valley with Fitz Roy's background, a wonderful view. If you go just by the day or with older people it is a good choice!

Where to stay in El Chalten

Thanks to the city's small size, almost all of the accommodation options in El Chalten are within easy walking distance of anything of note in town. Most "hotels" are in fact cozy alpine-style lodges catering to international visitors, and tend to be on the pricier side due to their upscale amenities. Alternatively, you can stay in one of the many campsites outside town, though weather here can be harsh. During the high season in January and February, you'll need to book at least a month or two in advance as lodging fills up fast. Keep in mind that El Chalten depends heavily on seasonal tourism for its income, and many hotels and lodges, particularly smaller, family-run affairs, close down during the winter off-season. On the flip side, many of those that remain open offer lower winter rates.
