Take in panoramic views of thePatagonian mountain landscape by hiking to Los Condores and Las Aguilas Viewpoints. Both vantage points are found along the shortest and easiest routes to take when hiking from El Chaltén--one provides a vantage point for viewing the Adela, Torre, and Fitz Roy massifs and the Vueltas River Valley, and the other offers views of Lake Viedma. The rocky walking path requires only minimum fitness, making the trail and surrounding steppe and mountain scenery accessible by everyone. Bring a bottle of water to keep hydrated and an extra layer, as it can get windy. • A reasonably short walk to the top of this mountain with a beautiful view over the village of el chatting and underlying more on the other side of the top

  • With wind, but clear weather, we are still here hochgekraxelt high on arrival. The road is very wide and so easy to commit. Of course it has the height difference, but everyone can go at his pace, sees one but all the way before him. The views of Fitz Roy was superb with el Chalten at his feet. Great way to start to learn about the environment. However the morning sun I think is more beautiful than the evening, because it shines upon the mountains then and does not like the night blind.

Where to stay in El Chalten

Thanks to the city's small size, almost all of the accommodation options in El Chalten are within easy walking distance of anything of note in town. Most "hotels" are in fact cozy alpine-style lodges catering to international visitors, and tend to be on the pricier side due to their upscale amenities. Alternatively, you can stay in one of the many campsites outside town, though weather here can be harsh. During the high season in January and February, you'll need to book at least a month or two in advance as lodging fills up fast. Keep in mind that El Chalten depends heavily on seasonal tourism for its income, and many hotels and lodges, particularly smaller, family-run affairs, close down during the winter off-season. On the flip side, many of those that remain open offer lower winter rates.
