  • This hike serves incredible view-points and diverse nature. The final destination is raw and unreal. If you are in El Chaltén, you shouldn't miss out this hike. 6 hours back and forth, including break...  more »
  • Scene of indescribable landscapes! One of the most beautiful tracks met. Go prepared. Take your lunch, your garbage collection and be happy!

  • It is a moderate hike. But the truth, is worth... See Hill Tower in the background and the lagoon on your eyes is priceless. Indescribable!

  • The hike leading up to this is actually pretty damn boring if you're an experienced hiker (I am no way experienced, but I've done enough to know). There's not particularly anything impressive to see for the first 7km but when you arrive at the end, it's all totally worth it as the views are pretty damn stunning. Would recommend this hike especially as it's free.
  • A gorgeous hike to Laguna Torre, one of many starting at El Chalten. This took 6 hours, but the scenery was amazing.
  • Good day hike.
  • Wonderful is a word just to express how incredible this place is.
  • Breath takingly beautiful (even when the peaks are not visible)

Where to stay in El Chalten

Thanks to the city's small size, almost all of the accommodation options in El Chalten are within easy walking distance of anything of note in town. Most "hotels" are in fact cozy alpine-style lodges catering to international visitors, and tend to be on the pricier side due to their upscale amenities. Alternatively, you can stay in one of the many campsites outside town, though weather here can be harsh. During the high season in January and February, you'll need to book at least a month or two in advance as lodging fills up fast. Keep in mind that El Chalten depends heavily on seasonal tourism for its income, and many hotels and lodges, particularly smaller, family-run affairs, close down during the winter off-season. On the flip side, many of those that remain open offer lower winter rates.
