Glaciar Piedras Blancas, El Chalten
(4.9/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
A peaceful hike through the forest takes you to Glaciar Piedras Blancas, a stunning glacier and lake. Part of the Glacier National Park, the heavily wooded area makes a perfect setting for a long but scenic trek along the rushing Rio Blanco. When you reach the lookout point, you can admire the icy cascade descending from a Mount Fitzroy cliff. Keep your eyes peeled--you might even see chunks of ice detaching from the glacier and falling into the lake below. • can be reached after a simple walk from estancia El Pilar, 25 km from the Centre, in passing to laguna de Los Tres

  • Three ways to view the piedras blancas glacier. 1) part of the hosteria El Pilar and walk on gentle slope for 1 hour and little until the mirador; 2) climbs up the pathway that leads to the Laguna de Los Three and, just before the camp Poincenot, turns in a fork right (sign on site) and walks in mild descent to the same mirador indicated in item 1; 3) Finally, to actually access the glacier (and not the mirador) follows on the track until the Piedra Del Fraille and along the way pick up the trail to the Lake. Very nice place and worth the visit!

  • We did it the same day we made the trip to "La Laguna de los Tres". Amazing place! You can see from a viewpoint on the road and really shocking.
