Glaciar Piedras Blancas, El Chalten

(4.9/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
A peaceful hike through the forest takes you to Glaciar Piedras Blancas, a stunning glacier and lake. Part of the Glacier National Park, the heavily wooded area makes a perfect setting for a long but scenic trek along the rushing Rio Blanco. When you reach the lookout point, you can admire the icy cascade descending from a Mount Fitzroy cliff. Keep your eyes peeled--you might even see chunks of ice detaching from the glacier and falling into the lake below. • Starting from the Hosteria El Pilar, it is one of the views that we have in our back walk towards El Chaltén. From the front, you can see perfectly the glacier, the chorrillos of water that give to the Blanco River, some clouds of mist caused by the fall of water... all surrounded by a lovely forest.

  • From El Pilar walks the walk to Laguna Torre through the Woods. In different places are nice vantage points to the Glaciar Piedras Blancas. A very varied and less tiring walk if you're coming from El Pilar. For people who the long walk (to Laguna Torre) physically cannot cope with, is this walk, from El Pilar and back, a nice alternative to the Glaciar. You don't have to take an expensive taxi. Our hotel (Don los Cerros) arranged a cheap shuttle van with Las Lengas that morning at different times.

  • When you are looking at it, it is incredible to be there! You can see every detail, the blue glacier water, there are no words! worth the effort of walking up there to keep appreciating it hours.
