Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, El Calafate

4.8
Enjoy breathtaking views of some of the world's most spectacular ice fields at Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. The expansive national park, which shares a border with Chile, contains 47 glaciers, with 30 percent of its total area covered by ice. Thanks to well-developed trails and viewing platforms, you can see some of these glaciers up close, as the raw mechanics of nature drive the ice ever so slowly towards its destination. Don't miss the awe-inspiring Perito Moreno Glacier, where you're likely to hear thunderous crashes as chunks of the glacier break off and fall into the water. Using our international travel planner, El Calafate attractions like Parque Nacional Los Glaciares can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • We had a wonderful time exploring the park, so many ice falls it was fun to watch! Easy to get around, very clean park. Surely worth the stop!  more »
  • Wow!. We booked a trip that included a boat ride to the glacier itself so I would highly recommend that. Start at the highest point when in the national park and if you end up at the lowest point you ...  more »
  • You have to go and walk on the glacier. It totally worth the 165$US. It's a km, nothing but it's amazing !!! I won't recommend the big eye which is the big tour because at the end of the little one, w...  more »

  • The park is unique because you are so close to the Glacier and a boat ride is not necessary. I have seen glaciers in Alaska but not as close as the Perito Moreno glacier.
  • Monopoly and extortion. $30 for 1 day entrance is too expensive to see just 1% of the glacier. Don’t forget to account for bus fare, expedition guides, and rentals.
  • The Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina is a 250 square kilometer ice formation that feeds into Largo Argentino and is a major tourist attraction in Patagonia. El Calafate, Argentina was again one of the huge markers for my trip. After setting off from Gobernador Gregores at first light, I got on my way for a pretty tough riding day on Ruta 40. I left El Calafate in the early morning for the 50-mile journey to the Perito Moreno Glacier. There are a couple of stops along the way with great views. You can ride right into the park and the entry fee is $25 USD to the Los Glaciares National Park. Only buses and disabled cars are allowed up into the top park area with the best views although I pretended to not know so I could get some photos, pleading ignorance is a great excuse for tourists in many situations in foreign lands! I also got the ferry out to the face of Perito Moreno Glacier (an additional $100 USD) prices vary at different times of the year. The ride goes for about 45 minutes and is a great way to get a bunch of photos. Unfortunately, no icefalls from the face occurred during my trip. You can hear really loud claps from the glacier as it slowly moves into the lake.
  • 📌Important place
  • One of the most stunning places I visited during my trip across South America ! The glacier is so impressive that you will remember it for the rest of your life. Make sure you spend enough time there to enjoy it !
