  • I did this tour during the bus ride from Calafate to Chalten. Walk Patagonia company happens to you to look for the hotel (with all the luggage) and takes you to the hotel from Chalten, stopping at the Hosteria La Leona (a historical place). This Inn you will arrive around 11 am, and can be combined with the excursion to petrified forest. The bus coming from Calafate and another bus coming from Chalten exchanged passengers around 2 pm. The place is amazing, although it is not easy to walk by the characteristics of the soil (they offer trekking poles to help you). Is lunch a meal outdoors (there are no facilities of any kind). The excursion is suspended by rain. This is a desert place (thousands of years ago the bottom of a dry Lake), without shadow and pretty hot but it's worth the effort. Not only are there fossils of trees but also tell us.

  • Under a super enthusiastic Guide, this hidden valley has a large amount of fossil trees and dinosaur bones in excellent and natural shape, hidden and protected by ancient lava eruptions.  more »
  • The first day we arrived in Calafate and had time to make a trip before you visit the stunning Perito Moreno. We decided to do this and disappoint us completely. Rock formations, desert in the form of hat and some that another crack in the rock, called the attention but nothing more. Perhaps if we had rented a couple of 4 x 4 or quarks the trip would have been more fun. The sights of the city on one side of the Lake, and the perito moreno on the other were the best. Informensen well what they want to do before hiring the excursion by Internet as we did wrong.

Where to stay in El Calafate

El Calafate offers abundant lodgings, from budget-friendly guesthouses to four-star hotels. Top beds sell out well before the peak season (October to April, and especially December to February), so it's a good idea to reserve in advance if you plan to visit during that time. Spontaneous travelers without prior arrangements can look for youth hostels, many of which are located just outside of town. To stay in comfort without burning a hole in your wallet, consider vacationing here during the low season, when most hotels offer deep discounts.
