The Commissariat is right in the Centre of El Calafate, on AV. Libertador, so any tourist passes in front of the entrance. Inside, there's a small exhibition and also a series of panels on the creation of the Los Glaciares National Park, about the colonization, the occupation of Patagonia, the formation of glaciers. A lot of historical information (in Spanish and English). Outside, a beautiful garden with Patagonian species (including calafate), early 20th-century machinery, and statues of important names for the exploration of the Patagonia, as Charles Darwin, and of course, Francisco p. Moreno, who devoted your life to map, explore and defend the frontier limits between Argentina and Chile. Is a simple and quiet ride, good for a walk after lunch. There are toilets for visitors, but no other structures (shop, snack bar, wi-fi etc). It is interesting to adults and children.

a nice place to get to know a little about its history. Like us, but I think it can improve. In the part of Ranger attention enough leaves to be desired, is that Rangers are not to guide us, but at least one little attention on your part would have been nice... but put some guide every hour, the place is well armed but lack attention.

Where to stay in El Calafate

El Calafate offers abundant lodgings, from budget-friendly guesthouses to four-star hotels. Top beds sell out well before the peak season (October to April, and especially December to February), so it's a good idea to reserve in advance if you plan to visit during that time. Spontaneous travelers without prior arrangements can look for youth hostels, many of which are located just outside of town. To stay in comfort without burning a hole in your wallet, consider vacationing here during the low season, when most hotels offer deep discounts.
