Plaza San Martin, Cordoba

3.5
Swing by Plaza San Martin to get a taste of one of the city's liveliest public spaces. Originally constructed in 1577, the plaza features wide pathways and manicured green areas topped off with lush local foliage. Grab a park bench and watch the crowds stroll by, or check out the street performers and other activities that tend to crop up here. Alternatively, explore the plaza's surroundings by visiting the nearby cathedral and restored town hall, featuring an arched white facade. Don't miss getting an up-close look at the bronze statue in the center of the plaza, dedicated to independence war hero General Jose de San Martin. My first photo in Cordoba was taken on this place, very nice, clean and tidy. Nice place, preferred to visit and photograph, is a must.

Day I don't like. Many people. However at night throughout the area like it's quieter. It is very cute with the lighting there is. They make you want to sit, have a drink. In spring, it is welcome.

Plaza San Martin is very beautiful. The surrounding architecture is pretty to look at, and there are also art fairs nearby where you can purchase handmade items on weekends.

Everyone knows the entire square for it's story, mainly churches built by natives.. But few (even locals) know that what now is part of the Cabildo and Catedral used to be a torture camp from the last dictatorship. See the tiny (and yes, cute romantic even) street of stones between both buildings? There's a tiny door on Cabildo sometimes occupied by the police nowadays, and a big door from the Cathedral side? Those were entries. It's 2017 and still little is known of what really happened there and how the church got involved. But people disappeared there, forever.. A sad story. Our story. Not everything it's art and oh! The magnificent cathedral the lively square. People who know this tiny little fraction of story and part of Menendez and Videla dictatorship usually refuse to walk that street. Even entering to the Cabildo. I'm on of those. Is a shame. I will never be able to see inside of it, the many more history that building has! 200 years and more! Just because those killers. By the way Solía estar más linda, limpia... Ahora no. Gracias intendente. Anyways.

This is Córdoba's main square, it's filled with people and historic landmarks. The cleanliness and maintenance are generally good but could be improved
