  • This church in the pedestrian heart, was the first convent of closing that existed in Cordoba. In the year 1613 was established in the city, the order of Saint Catherine of Siena, of cloistered nuns. In the year 1628 was founded the monastery of Discalced Carmelites, the first of this order in Latin America. In 1890 the Church was dedicated to Santa Catalina de Siena. At the architectural level, this beautiful temple has a façade of clear and well-defined neoclassical style, which contrasts with the Baroque solid that crowns the entrance to the monastery, where stands a sculpture of Santa Catalina de Siena, patron saint of the Church. A floodlight glass protects an image of the child Jesus, surrounded by flowers and Elizabethan decorations, craft work with seed beads and mirrors by the nuns of Santa Catalina. In the interior of the temple are 200 oil paintings that recall the life of Santa Catalina de Siena. Tapestries colonial and beautiful 17TH-century carpets, complentan ornamentation. Visiting hours: daily: 07.00 at 08:00. And 18:00 to 19:00 hs. Sunday: 19:30 hs attached photos, did you useful?

  • A treasure of spirituality in the Centre. With its cloistered nuns are a lung of spirituality among the madness of the Center. The beauty of the Church is unsurpassed in where stands the altar with the imposing altarpiece in the background. It's nice to pray there, especially at 19 hrs

  • The monastery of Santa Catalina de Siena hosts the first cloistered monastery created in the current Argentine territory in 1613. It was created by Ms. Leonor de Tejeda and Mirabal, sister of Juan de Tejeda and both sons of DN. Tristán de Tejeda, conqueror who accompanied Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera during the founding of the city of Córdoba 6 July 1573. The current building was built at the end of the 19th century and on it stands the dome of the Church and the noble coat of arms of the family Tejeda. Leonor was founder and Abbess of the first convent of nuns of Argentina and also was a pioneer of education for girls. Arriving in Cordoba he married a wealthy and distinguished gentleman, Manuel Fonseca and Contreras. Leonor and her spouse became interested in the idea of founding a convent of nuns in Cordoba. After a mission in Buenos Aires in 1598 general Fonseca falls ill but begins to renovate their homestead to transform it into a convent and home for the education of girls. Collaborated in the task the Bishop Hernando de Trejo and Sanabria. July 2, 1613 the monastery of Santa Catalina de Siena opened up and 16 sisters made the votes, among them Leonor de Tejeda, first Prioress was. In 1625 the convent received papal permission and the statutes. Between 1613 and 1640 the mother Catalina de Siena is dedicated to this monastery and the Santa Teresa de Jesús, founded in the continuous block by his brother Juan de Tejeda Mirabal in 1628.
