Capilla Domestica Compania de Jesus, Cordoba

4.8
#4 of 20 in Museums in Cordoba
Behind the lovely brick facade of Capilla Domestica Compania de Jesus, an intriguing blend of influences awaits. Consecrated in 1668, the oldest Jesuit church in Córdoba features a colorful altar, designed by an Italian architect but including distinct indigenous touches. The building's French architect had a background in shipbuilding; note how the chapels on either side of the nave resemble the port and starboard flanks of a ship. Look up and admire the intricate murals that wind across the church's curved roof. The domestic Chapel is located on the street home 127, between Bishop Trejo and AV Velez Sarsfield, forming part of the Jesuitic block that was declared world heritage by Unesco in 2000. The construction of the chapel began in the year 1644 finalizandose in 1688. Overseas attention access door made of wood carved and framed by a doorway in stone Toad, crowned by the anagram of Maria. On the entrance door reads "Home of Dios and gate of heaven". It has a single nave built with thick stone walls and wood deck. Very interesting is the Baroque altar from the missions of Paraguay, also in Golden and polychromed wood and also important images it contains, such as San Francisco Javier and San Ignacio de Loyola. Its strong and thick rods of tacuara United with crude touch, roof is lined with cow hides painted and attached with a tail made of suitably boiled bones. The Chapel is in excellent condition, having been renovated and put in value by the Government of the province of Córdoba in the context of the recovery of the historical city center project. The chapel can be visited from Monday to Sunday: 7:30 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 21:30 pm, must be taken into account that its doors are closed, so it should ring a Bell and wait staff to allow entry.
