Capilla Domestica Compania de Jesus, Cordoba

4.8
#4 of 20 in Museums in Cordoba
Behind the lovely brick facade of Capilla Domestica Compania de Jesus, an intriguing blend of influences awaits. Consecrated in 1668, the oldest Jesuit church in Córdoba features a colorful altar, designed by an Italian architect but including distinct indigenous touches. The building's French architect had a background in shipbuilding; note how the chapels on either side of the nave resemble the port and starboard flanks of a ship. Look up and admire the intricate murals that wind across the church's curved roof. • The domestic Chapel, was built by the Jesuits and completed in the year 1668 and is considered the oldest in the country, because the others even if they started earlier, were completed many years later. It is part of the Manzana Jesuítica, declared world heritage by the Unesco in the year 2000. He is currently residence of the Jesuit fathers, and lived there the current Pope Francisco. Although the Chapel is very pretty and has good pictures explanations are not with a guide, but with questions to the Secretariat that the entry $10. Gardens that are said to be beautiful can not be visited. When the Jesuits were driven out, other congregations stayed with things from the original Chapel were not returned. They changed rientacion the altar already not looking East.
