Complejo El Zapato, Capilla del Monte

Outdoor Activity
Legend has it that hundreds of years ago, on every thirteenth moon, Indian chiefs, shamans, and healers would gather under Complejo El Zapato, which was shaped by wind and erosion in the recognizable form of a shoe. "The Shoe" clearly stands out among other granite rocks in this rugged and imposing mountain terrain. Look for a cave and a fountain next to the stone steps at the foot of the rock. Climb to the top of the rock for scenic views of the surroundings, including the Dolores River and the dam. A giant slide and a zipline will attract adventurous souls, while the rest can chill and grab a bite at a restaurant. For a memento to bring home, visit the crafts fair. Where to stay in Capilla del Monte

The primary area to look for accommodations in Capilla del Monte lies in the north of town. Hotels boasting mountain views and additional amenities, such as pools, spas, and bars, sit on the grander streets. Simple, welcoming posadas (guesthouses) provide good options for more budget-conscious travelers. For a real outdoorsy experience befitting the attractive landscape that surrounds, consider staying at one of the campsites on the outskirts of town; you can choose between traditional pitched tents and rustic converted-barn accommodations.

  • The formation is fun but that is it. It is surrounded by touristy shops and activities that are old and mismanaged. This is not worth seeing.  more »

  • Hello! We went with my boyfriend to spend a few hours there. We got to the place at collective line. It is not really the big thing, is as an extra place to take into account how to do more.

  • It's a beautiful area to see the whole valley, but the "zapato" itself is kind of a joke and not that interesting. They clued the rock on top of the base. Originally it was one piece, but now it just looks fake because of the cement. Aside from the shoe, go here to see the nice view of the mountains and the awesome lake. Good place to go to and very close to Capilla del Monte.
  • Very nice place to visit
  • Very nice place, more than anything because of the view. Beautiful to watch the sunset. I charged was the parking lot to leave the vehicle $30.
