Quebrada del Rio de las Conchas, Cafayate
(4.9/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
A large nature reserve, Quebrada del Rio de las Conchas is home to unusual geological formations, mountain ranges, and a colorful landscape. Tectonic movement in the last two million years influenced the way the land appears today, creating unique shapes and red rock formations. Enter through the gorge and drive through the reserve to reach fascinating natural sites like the whimsically named Devil's Throat. Music performances are sometimes held in these natural amphitheatres, and if you're lucky, you just might catch a spectacular show. • From Cachi years ago Ana María Cristofani, had advised me not leaving Cafayate without doing 50 km towards Salta asphalt path, and return to continue my trip to R40 in the landscape are drawn a spate of figures, the obelisk, Toad, the friar, windows, the Amphitheater, the throat of the devil, etc. If or lower in the Amphitheater, the rest can be seen from the car, although the views are beautiful and worth the photo.

  • I did it back and back recently, after 7 years of my previous visit. It is asphalt is perfect, has beautiful views, must stop at the Garganta del Diablo and the amphitheatre, leave the car and go between the stone walls. There are formations with attractive colours and strange shapes, that deserve to stop to the photo. I was told that areas with fossil remains, which we were not for what I can not comment. There is almost no services, and depending on the time, is there any place for crafts. The 90 kilometers that separate it from Salta capital do not have major attraction.
