Obelisco, Buenos Aires

(3.3/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
Built to celebrate the fourth centenary of the founding of Buenos Aires, Obelisco represents one of the city's central icons. Using pioneering construction techniques, a German firm built the monument in 1936--in a staggering 31 days. Nowadays it's surrounded by some of the most chaotic traffic in the world, as cars and buses hurtle down Avenida Corrientes. The monument serves as a convenient meeting point for locals and tourists alike, who gather there before heading out for a night on the town. Use our Buenos Aires tour planner to visit Obelisco on your trip to Buenos Aires, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.

  • Place icon of Buenos Aires. Accessible for the communication. Care is seeking by pungas and the arrebatadores. Monitoring had been strengthened in recent years, but we must be attentive and her vigilance.

  • What's the point?! It's just an obelisk! But it serves as a reference point. And just for that! You can see it from several points in the city.

  • Nice meeting, a symbol of Argentina, but don't expect anything more. For a cool photo has to be muitaaaa patience because the space is disputed due to the tourists.
